Registration and the third UK lockdown

07 Jan 2021

We are extremely proud of the approach HCPC professionals have taken in dealing with a very stressful and difficult year managing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. During 2020 we saw various UK-wide and country-specific measures to limit the spread of the virus, but sadly we are now facing another substantial rise in cases.

Your health and wellbeing

We understand that many of you have faced significant and sustained pressures over the past 10 months in managing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and you are now being asked to do even more to meet the demands of the latest peak. Whilst you have shown great resilience in the face of recent adversity, it is important that you look after your own health too.

We signpost to a range of resources to support you as we move through this wave of the pandemic, and provide some top tips in the health and wellbeing section of our COVID-19 hub.

What we’re doing to help

We have a wealth of resources available on our website to support you in applying the standards during this difficult time, and we will continue to monitor the issues that arise in practice to ensure these resources are kept up-to-date and provide the information you need.

PPE

We know that a key issue throughout the pandemic, particularly in the early stages, has been access to PPE. You may wish to refer to our ‘Managing risk: infection prevention and control' information sheet for guidance on what to do. We will also keep this web content under review.

Private practice

For those of our registrants working in private practice, the Government guidance as at 5 January 2021 indicates that medical services can stay open. However, we advise you to continue to keep up to date with, and follow, the Government guidance, as it may change.

Working remotely?

Join our webinars to explore the benefits and challenges of remote consultations and how to continue communicating effectively, display empathy and overcome barriers such as language differences and disabilities. Marc Beswick, an Occupational Therapist and the Scottish Government’s National Lead for Technology Enabled Care Programme, will share his unique experience and knowledge.

To join us on Tuesday 13 January at 12:30 or Wednesday 14 January at 19:30, register here.
