Who are HPC and what do we do
Perhaps your child needs to see a speech and language therapist, maybe you are receiving radiotherapy, or you have made an appointment with a physiotherapist. Whenever or wherever you see a health professional, you need reassurance about the person treating you. You need to know that they meet professional standards. You also need to know that someone will take action if things go wrong. That's why we were created.
Which professions do the HPC regulate?
Arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists/podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists & orthotists, radiographers, speech & language therapists. We do not regulate nurses or doctors. Read more information about other UK regulators.
What does the HPC do?
We are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. We set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 14 professions. We keep a register of health professionals who meet our standards, and we take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. We were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
