Using the online register
Our online register is a fast, efficient, reliable and free way of checking the registration of a health professional. It is updated in 'real time', which means that as we make changes to registrants' information, these changes appear on the online register immediately.
In order to use the Register, you will need to know the profession of the person whose registration you wish to check. You will also need to know either their surname, or their registration number. A registration number has up to 6 numbers, and starts with two letters, ie PH123456
Each profession has its own different two-year registration cycle. The dates shown on the Register reflect the beginning and the end of the profession's current registration cycle. The dates on the Register do not indicate how long a registrant has been qualified or practising.
What the register shows you
The register shows you whether a health professional is registered with us and, as a result, whether they are practising legally, safely and effectively, and they are entitled to use a protected title. If you cannot find your health professional on the register, you should assume they are not registered.
The full details displayed about each registrant are:
- a unique identifier (their registration number);
- their name;
- the approximate geographical area in which they work.
- any limitations or conditions to their practice (for further information about complaints against health professionals click here)
- the date of their current registration cycle;
- the date their current registration cycle ends;
This extra information is there to allow you to identify your health professional. It will also tell you if the professional has any orders made against them of a professional nature - in other words, if their practice has been restricted in some way, or they have been suspended.
What doesn't the register show?
Anyone on the register must meet our standards so that they can practise legally, safely and effectively. The register will not show individual qualifications, seniority, or skill levels. However, as a condition of registration, registrants must only practise within their ability and skills.
The register does not display a full home address or work address. The information displayed is just so that you can check identify the health professional whose registration you are checking.
