Why check you health professional is registered

The HPC protects a number of professional titles such as 'paramedic' and 'physiotherapist'. If you are using one of these titles, by law, you must be registered with the HPC. If you use a health professional who is not registered, you risk being treated by someone who is not up to national standards.

What happens if I don't use a registered health professional?

If something should go wrong during your treatment, we will not be able to take action against that person, and therefore we will be unable to stop them treating other people.

My health professional says they are registered but I can't find them on the register

This may be because they are registered under a slightly different name for example someone may be William Smith on the register but go by the name Bill Smith in his practice. It may also be possible that they think they are on the register but for some reason their registration may have lapsed.
