11,562 social workers in England have not renewed despite being given several opportunities to do so. We have now begun the process to remove these individuals from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Register. Any social worker who has not renewed can avoid being removed from the Register by completing the process immediately and no later than 2 January 2013. Until this date, social workers may continue to practise. We will be writing to all those concerned, and their employers, with this information.
To fully complete the renewal process, social workers must pay their fee and complete the professional declaration. This can be done quickly and efficiently online.

1. If individuals do not wish to use the online portal, they can use the paper renewal form which was sent to them recently. A replacement form can be requested via our website at www.hcpc-uk.org/registrants/renew/ or by calling on +44 (0)845 3004 472. Be aware that the paper form may take approximately ten working days to reach the recipient.
2. Under Article 13B(1) of the Health and Social Work Professions Order 2001, a person may not practise as a social worker in England unless they are registered with the HCPC. Further, the title ‘social worker’ is protected by law. Once a person has been removed from the Register they must cease practising or using that title.
