HPC launches guidance on health and character 07/01/2010 Guidance on health and character The Health Professions Council (HPC) has launched new guidance on its health and character processes.
The guidance is designed for applicants, registrants and education and training providers. The HPC have produced the guidance to provide more information about the processes that it uses when looking at information about the health or character of an applicant or registrant. The guidance also provides some advice on the principles that the HPC use when making decisions about health and character.
HPC rules state that it must check everyone’s health and character when they apply to join the HPC Register as part of making sure that applicants will be able to practise safely and effectively within their profession. The HPC can also take action against a registrant if their health or character creates concerns about their ability to continue practising safely.
Michael Guthrie, Director of Policy and Standards said:
“The new guidance on health and character is something that we have produced to help applicants, registrants and education providers to understand the process and decisions made more clearly. The HPC regularly receives queries about health and character and their impact on an applicant or registrant. We hope that this guidance will help to answer those queries.”
