Registration renewal for operating department practitioners starts 1 September

Registration renewal

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration renewal period for operating department practitioners opens on Thursday 1 September 2016 and closes on Wednesday 30 November 2016. The HCPC will write to all registered operating department practitioners at the beginning of September with information on how to renew.

To renew, registrants must complete a professional declaration and pay a renewal fee no later than midnight on 30 November. This fee is tax deductible, which means that registrants paying the standard 20 per cent tax rate can reclaim a 20 per cent refund from HMRC. The easiest and quickest way to renew is via the online system. More information, including video guides, is available at www.hcpc-uk.org/renew

For the first time, the HCPC renewal process includes a professional indemnity declaration. This follows new Government legislation requiring all professions to sign a declaration confirming they are covered by professional indemnity or, if not practicing at the time of renewal, that they understand the requirement to have professional indemnity in place when they return to practice.

A random sample of 2.5 per cent of the profession will also be selected to submit a continuing professional development (CPD) profile during this period. Those selected for audit will receive a separate letter after the renewal notices are sent out. More information, including sample profiles, activity types and video guides, is available at www.hcpc-uk.org/registrants/cpd

Dushyan Ashton, HCPC Registration Manager, commented:

“Our online system provides a quick and easy way to renew, and we want to encourage registrants to use this resource. We would advise all dietitians who wish to remain on the Register to renew as early as possible to ensure that you can continue to practice without disruption.”

Registrants can contact the HCPC Registration Department with any queries on renewal or the CPD audit process from 1 September, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on 0300 500 4472.
