UK approved course

This section contains information about applying for registration with the HPC for applicants who hold an approved qualification.

Completing an approved course does not guarantee someone will become registered. It shows us the applicant meets our professional standards and is eligible to apply for registration. We need additional information from them in order to be able to register them.

The information provided by applicants helps us to know that:

• they are who they say they are;
• they meet our standards; and
• we can contact them if we need to.

Information for practitioner psychologists

The Education and Training Committee has agreed the list of approved programmes for practitioner psychologists. This list will become effective when the register opens on 1 July 2009.

If you are studying an approved programme on the day that our Register opens, you will be able to apply for registration with us, via the UK approved programme route, once you complete it.

If you are currently considering a career as a practitioner psychologist, you are advised to work towards completing a programme which is on the list of approved programmes for practitioner psychologists.

This route allows individuals who hold an approved qualification and have not been on the voluntary registers to apply for registration.

You can apply for registration via this route even if your approved qualification no longer runs, or has been superseded by a different or higher level qualification. The Education and Training Committee has agreed a list of approved historic programmes which will be published when the register opens.

The cost of registering via the UK approved course route is a one-off £53 scrutiny fee and £76 per year for the cost of registration. New graduates from approved courses currently receive a 50% discount on the cost of registration for the first two full professional years.
