Mr Robert Templeton

Robert Templeton-main

Robert is an independent social work and social care advisor with over 25 years experience in health and social care, across the full range of adult and children services. He has a successful track record of senior management and strategic leadership within dispersed and complex health and social care organisations throughout Local Authorities, the NHS and the Third Sector.

Robert was Director of Health and Social Care Operations at the Military Charity SSAFA providing financial, practical and emotional assistance to both serving and veterans of the British armed forces and their families. He was responsible for a broad portfolio of services including NHS Primary Care Services, Social Care Services, Fostering and Adoption, and Support for Bereaved Families and the families of those wounded, injured or sick

Prior to this Robert was Head of Transforming Social Care at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) leading on SCIE’s Dignity, Personalisation, Social Work Practice Pilots, Adult Safeguarding, Carers, Mental Health and Mental Capacity Act programs. He has worked as Principal Consultant for Social Care Services at the Local Government Association (LGA) providing strategic advice to the LGA on policy and improvement of social care and health. 

Robert has also held a number of senior management positions in local authorities including Head of Learning Disability Services for The Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley.  He started his career in children’s social work with roles in Cambridgeshire County Council’s Education Department, Addenbrooke’s Hospital and in the London Borough of Hackney. Robert also worked as a Special Needs Social Worker in Tala, Kangundo, Kenya.
