This section of the site contains information about our Council. Here you can read about the members of the Council, including the Chair, the rules and procedures they follow and find out about meetings (including minutes and how to attend).
The role of the Council is to protect the health and well being of those using or needing the services of registrants. It does this by developing and monitoring strategy and policy for the HCPC, and ensuring that the organisation fulfils its functions under the Health and Social Work Professions Order 2001.
The Council consists of 12 members (made up of 6 registrant and 6 lay members), appointed on behalf of the Privy Council.
Four statutory committees have been set up, in accordance with our legislation, to establish and monitor standards of education and training and to deal with fitness to practise issues. In addition, the Council has established two non-statutory committees to provide it with advice and guidance on specific issues. You will find further information regarding individual committees here.
