Consultation on Continuing professional development (CPD)01/09/2004 - 31/12/2004 This consultation has now closed. You can download a copy of the consultation document and the consultation responses document below. For information about our CPD standards, please click here.
The Health Professions Order (2001) allows the Council, if it wishes, to require registrants to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if they are to remain on the Register. If it does intend to make such a requirement, the Council must set Standards for CPD and give guidance on these Standards.
The Council has already agreed in principle that CPD will be linked to the renewal of registration, arising from the results of its first consultation in 2002. It has therefore produced a consultation paper which sets out its proposals for draft Rules (which will need the approval of the Privy Council before they come into effect), its Standards for CPD and its Guidance to registrants on them. A copy of this consultation paper can be downloaded from this page (see box opposite).
Before the Council finalises the draft Rules, Standards and Guidance, it would like to obtain the views of the stakeholders who have an interest in the professional development of its registrants. This will mainly be registrants, but others too will be interested, for example employers of health professionals, education providers and professional bodies.
