FAQs:
I have just been sent a registration renewal form in the post, what do I do next?
Your renewal form asks you to renew your registration with the HPC if you wish to continue to practise as a practitioner psychologist. You will need to complete this form as soon as possible, but no later than the extended deadline of 30 November 2009, and return it to us with your payment or completed direct debit instruction. This payment of £120 then covers you for the first renewal cycle which runs from 1 November 2009 to 31 May 2011.
Once you have renewed your registration, the HPC will send you a certificate and authentication card. These documents are printed with your name, registration number, the dates of your registration, and the protected title (or titles) that you are entitled to use. It does not show your qualifications, it shows that you are on the HPC Register and that you meet our standards.
Should you have any questions about your registration with the HPC, please contact our Registration Department. The Registration team can be contacted Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on the lo-call number 0845 300 4472 or 44 (0)20 7840 9802. You can also email registration@hpc-uk.org
For information on how to fill in your registration renewal form download the document here
Paying by direct debit If you wish to spread the cost of registration, please fill in the direct debit instruction on your renewal form. Your fee will be deducted from your account in three separate instalments. The dates and amounts for the next 19 months are:
Instalment 1 - 1 September 2009 (or one of the dates below) £44 Instalment 2 - 1 April 2010 £38 Instalment 3 - 3 October 2010 £38
The anticipated dates for your initial payment are on or around 1 September, 1 or 31 October 2009, this will depend on the date we receive and process your renewal form and direct debit instruction. Please remember, the sooner you send us your completed form, the sooner we can renew your registration.
If you wish to pay by direct debit, you must...
- Complete the direct debit instruction with your bank details
- Return the form to us no later than 20 October 2009.
Please note that your bank details was not part of the information transferred from the voluntary registers.
Alternative methods of payment If you prefer, you can pay your full fee by cheque, money/postal order or by banker’s draft. Please send us the full amount as requested on your renewal form. Payments must be made in UK sterling and drawn on a bank based in the UK. Your payment must be crossed and made payable to ‘Health Professions Council’. Please write your full name and HPC registration number on the reverse side of your payment and ensure that it is not post-dated.
HPC return to practice requirements Our requirements apply to those who are registered with us but have not practised for a period of two years or more. They also apply to someone who has never been registered with us and who has never practised (or who has not practised in the last two years) but who holds an approved qualification which is over five years old.
Practitioner psychologists who have not practised since becoming registered with us can still sign the renewal form and renew their registration. This is because our requirements do not apply until you have been registered for two full years.
What if i have changed my address since I last registered with HPC? It is essential that registrants keep us informed of any change of address. Just as you would inform your bank or gas and electricity supplier if you move house, make sure you contact the HPC. If we do not have your correct address then we cannot get in touch about renewing your registration. And if you lapse off the Register this not only affects your livelihood but also your manager, colleagues and, of course, patients.
How long will it take for HPC to process my renewal? Once received, we will process renewal forms in approximately ten working days. When a renewal form has been processed and a payment has been made, the HPC online Register is immediately updated to show the new registration dates (1 November 2009 to 31 May 2011). The Register is in real-time and is therefore the best way for registrants to check that their form has been processed. The Register can be viewed at www.hpcheck.org
All registrants will be sent a certificate and authentication card once their renewal form and payment has been received and successfully processed. We urge practitioner psychologists to send in their renewal forms as soon as possible as it allows time to resolve any issues arising well before the deadline. So don’t leave it to the last minute!
Returners to practice Our requirements apply to those who are registered with us but have not practised for a period of two years or more.
What happens if you are no longer practising your profession? If you do not need to be registered with us, you can make an application for the removal of your name from the Register. This application must be made in writing and should be accompanied by a declaration stating that you are not aware of any matter which could give rise to an allegation being made against you.
If you do not wish to renew your registration, and you currently pay your fee by direct debit, you must call us before the first instalment date. You must also tell your bank that you wish to cancel the direct debit instruction. This will ensure that the amount is not deducted from your bank account.
