Register of approved courses - Practitioner psychologists

The Register of Programmes, Qualifications, Institutions and Tests of Competence and of Knowledge of English approved under the Health Professions Order, 2001.

When the pracitioner psychologist register opened on 1 July 2009, the HPC approved a number of programmes which had previously been accredited by the British Psychological Society. We have only approved programmes which upon completion lead directly to eligibility to apply for registration with us. The HPC has not approved undergraduate degrees in psychology or masters programmes accredited by the British Psychological Society as 'stage one' masters. Over time, the HPC will approve all programmes which demonstrate that they meet our standards.

Historical qualifications
If you hold a qualification which is not on this list because either the education provider or programme is now closed, it is likely that you will still be able to register with us. We have approved a number of programmes, which were accredited by the BPS and allowed membership of a division and a BPS practising certificate. We call these ‘historical qualifications’. If you hold an historical qualification and you have been practising you will be apply to apply for registration with us via the UK approved programme route. If you hold an historical qualification and you have not been practising you will need to meet our returners to practise requirements before you can become registered. If you do not hold a historical qualification or can not provide the required evidence you may still be able to register with us via the grandparenting route.
